Following the meeting held in July 2025 to inform members about the citizen science activities of the Society, the report below was written to place on record the knowledge gained to date from monitoring the river Foss. This monitoring was carried out over a period of about eight years by a dedicated group of volunteers, without whom the information could not have been gathered.
The work being done by several York University departments, of which we are a core community member, will bring about a significant increase in knowledge of the health of the river, and hopefully lead to an expansion of our monitoring efforts, both in breadth of coverage and variety of methods used.
