On 17th August The Press in York featured an article covering (a) progress with upgrading the capacity of the Foss Barrier and (b) long term plans for upstream management of future Foss flooding, using a variety of “slowing the flow” measures. The EA proposals are surprisingly radical and deserve a welcome from all friends of the River Foss, as well as from all those concerned to lessen the impact of flooding in York. Riverside landowners in the upper reaches of the Foss and its tributary becks, however, may be less enthusiastic. It will be interesting to see how much of the Environment Agency master plan survives the political process. Here is the link to the Press report:
