Visit to a cottage garden in Skewsby (NGS)

8th June 2018

A visit to see the gardens at Rewela Cottage under the auspices of the NGS Open Gardens Scheme. The cost will be £7 pp. and will include refreshments: all the proceeds go to charity.

Situated in a lovely quiet country village, a little bit off the beaten track is one of Yorkshire little hidden treasures. Rewela Cottage was designed from a empty paddock, to be as labour saving as possible, using mainly unusual trees and shrubs offering interest all year, using foliage bark and berries, enhancing the well-designed structure.

All unusual trees and shrubs have labels giving full descriptions, picture, and any cultivation notes including propagation. Plant sales are specimens from the garden. Many varieties of Heuchera, Heucherella and Tiarellas, Penstemon, Hostas, ferns and herbs for sale.

Rewela Cottage is 4 miles north of Sheriff Hutton: on the York road, go though the village and head straight on towards Terrington turning left to Whenby & Brandsby, then right just past Whenby to Skewsby.  Turn left into Skewsby village and Rewela is 400 yards on the right.
