Visit to and guided tour of Tophill Low nature reserve.
10th June 2018
A visit to Top Hill Low nature reserve near Driffield. Owned by Yorkshire water it has a new £600,000 visitor centre and consists of areas of field, marshland, streams and reservoirs, situated next to the River Hull.
We will be having a two hour guided tour, so some walking will be involved, though I can’t imagine that much, as we will be in hides part of the time. The choice of June for a visit was made to allow us to see the orchid meadows which will be in full bloom. There should also be an abundance of breeding birds around including terns. Entry is £3.50 or less for concessions(see the link below) plus £30 for the tour, shared between us. I hope to attract 10 – 15 members to keep the cost of the tour to £3 or less each.
There are picnic tables available, so bring your own food etc!
After the tour, the rest of the day is yours to wander around the reserve, or just take in the sights from the visitor centre. Let’s hope for good weather!
Please contact Mike Gray to register your intention to join us, and to get any updates on the arrangements. 01904 758510 or firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be a limit on numbers to make sure we fit into the hides and can hear our guide properly.
